Join Winneshiek County Conservation for an afternoon of natural bracelet making at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 22nd, at Neste Valley Recreation Area.

Located between Calmar and Decorah at 2236 Neste Valley Road, Neste Valley sits on a historic homestead, one of the first Norwegian settlements in Winneshiek County. The park features 170 acres of prime wildlife habitat such as prairies, woodlands, oak savannas, and wetlands. Neste Valley offers a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities including mowed hiking trails, picnicking areas, and wildlife watching sites.

Registration is required by calling 563-534-7145. All ages welcome! Materials will be provided.

Cordage is an over 40,00 year-old practice of turning plants into string and rope. It was historically used for fishing nets, baskets, shelter-building, and more. We will use stinging nettle to make bracelets and coasters. The nettle will be pre-treated to remove the stinging defense mechanism.
