Leaf Casting 2-Day Workshop
Leaf casting, a process which uses a real leaf to make a concrete mold, creates a durable and unique concrete stepping stone or bird bath to add to your garden. Join Winneshiek County Conservation on August 7th and 14th at 5:30 pm at the Lake Meyer Campground Shop to create your own leaf cast birdbath or stepping stone. During the first session on Wednesday, August 7th, participants will setup and pour their castings. In the second session on Wednesday, August 14th, we will reveal the castings and paint/seal them to take home for outdoor use.
Participants must attend both sessions. This program is for ages 8 and older. Youth between the ages of 8-15 must attend with an adult.
Materials are limited and registration is required. There is a materials fee of $20 to create a leaf cast as part of this workshop. Payment must be made at the first session. Call Winneshiek County Conservation at 563-534-7145 to register.
Please bring your own large leaf to make a cast if you have one available! The large, smooth leaves of rhubarb, hostas, elephant ear plants, monstera, catalpa trees, or burdock work best. We will have some leaves to choose from for those who don’t bring their own.
Participants will meet at the Lake Meyer Campground Shop. Dress in clothing that can get dirty.
