Monarch Butterfly Tagging
Winneshiek County Conservation is excited to partner with Decorah Parks & Recreation for Monarch Butterfly Tagging at the Decorah Community Prairie on Wednesday, September 4th. The Decorah Community Prairie is one of the sites on the 2024 Driftless Safari, so be sure to bring your guidebook along!
We will meet in the Butterfly Garden at the Decorah Community Prairie from 4:30-5:30 p.m. to learn about and tag monarch butterflies. All ages are welcome and no registration is required.
During your visit to the Decorah Community Prairie, make sure to find the Driftless Safari post and make a rubbing in your Safari guidebook!
The Decorah Community Prairie is located at 4 Ohio Street in Decorah. For more information, please contact Winneshiek County Conservation at (563) 534-7145 or Decorah Parks & Recreation at (563) 382-4158.
More information about Driftless Safari:
Driftless Safari is a long-term scavenger hunt that covers all of Winneshiek County and runs from Earth Day until Halloween. The program is free and open to anyone that loves to explore and wants to experience some of the special places of Winneshiek County. The program’s guidebook features locations across the county that highlight some of our most unique natural, historical, and cultural places. Once at a site, participants follow clues in the guidebook to find a wooden post affixed with a special tile, and then use that tile to make a crayon rubbing in their guidebook as proof of their visit. Every guidebook page provides information about the site and offers ideas for fun activities to do while there. Pick up a free guidebook at any Winneshiek County Public Library.
