Eggs dyed shades of yellow, blue, and brown with natural dyes

Natural Egg Dyeing – Decorah

Winneshiek County Conservation is egg-cited to offer a program all about how to color eggs with dyes made from natural materials. We will participate in the fun springtime tradition of egg dyeing using natural dyes made from locally collected black walnut, elderberry, cherry, goldenrod, and more!

This Natural Egg Dyeing program is Monday, April 14th from 4:00-5:00 pm at the Oneota Co-op Kitchen Classroom in Decorah.

Natural Egg Dyeing is open to all ages (children should be accompanied by an adult). Bring a dozen of your own hard-boiled eggs or blown-out egg shells to decorate. We do not recommend eating your eggs after dyeing.

Egg alternatives that will still work with natural dyes:

  • Cotton fabric eggs (sewn, crocheted, etc.)
  • Egg shapes made with any other natural materials: wool, cardboard, linen, wood, bamboo, silk, etc.
  • Dye-able plastic eggs – take on the natural dyes, but not as vibrantly as natural eggs

Register for this free event by calling Winneshiek County Conservation at 563-534-7145.
