Walden Pond Open Park Day
Join Winneshiek County Conservation staff at Walden Pond for open fishing, trail exploration, and enjoyment of the outdoors on select weekends throughout the summer. The first open park day is Sunday, July 10th from 12-4 pm. All ages are welcome!
Walden Pond was recently dedicated as the Roy and Genevieve Schultz Memorial Outdoor Discovery Area by the Winneshiek County Conservation Board and Schultz family, who still live near the park. The outdoor education facility was donated to Winneshiek County Conservation to conserve the area and provide a space for environmental education. Walden Pond is a reservation-only park, specifically designated for educational programs.
Walden Pond, at 1432 130th Ave. Castalia, IA 52133, is perfect for fishing along the shore, hiking through the woods, or picnicking on the hillside with a view of the pond and prairie. There is truly something for everyone who enjoys the outdoors there! Bring your own fishing poles, hiking gear, picnic baskets, or other supplies to enjoy the park. Restrooms are available near the enclosed shelter downhill from the parking lot.
