Walden Pond Open Park Day
Enjoy Nordic Fest in Decorah and then get out of town to explore the surrounding landscape! Join Winneshiek County Conservation staff at Walden Pond on Saturday, July 30th from 8 am-12 pm for open fishing, trail exploration, and enjoyment of the outdoors.
Walden Pond was recently dedicated as the Roy and Genevieve Schultz Memorial Outdoor Discovery Area by the Winneshiek County Conservation Board and Schultz family, who still live near the park. The outdoor education facility was donated to Winneshiek County Conservation to conserve the area and provide a space for environmental education. Walden Pond is a reservation-only park, specifically designated for educational programs.
Walden Pond, at 1432 130th Ave. Castalia, IA 52133, is perfect for fishing along the shore, hiking through the woods, or picnicking on the hillside with a view of the pond and prairie. There is truly something for everyone who enjoys the outdoors there! Catch-and-release fishing is permitted and all Iowa DNR Fishing Regulations apply. Bring your own fishing poles, hiking gear, picnic baskets, or other supplies to enjoy the park. Restrooms are available near the enclosed shelter downhill from the parking lot.
For information on future open park times, call Winneshiek County Conservation at (563) 534-7145.
