Walden Pond Open Park Day

Join Winneshiek County Conservation staff at Walden Pond on Saturday, September 17th from 8 am-12 pm for open fishing, trail exploration, and enjoyment of the outdoors.
Walden Pond, dedicated as the Roy and Genevieve Schultz Memorial Outdoor Discovery Area, is a recent addition to the variety of county parks managed by Winneshiek County Conservation. The park was donated by the Schultz family with the intent to conserve the area and provide a space for environmental education. Walden Pond is a reservation-only park, specifically designated for educational programs.
Walden Pond, at 1432 130th Ave. Castalia, IA 52133, is perfect for fishing along the shore, hiking through the woods, or picnicking on the hillside with a view of the pond and prairie. There is truly something for everyone who enjoys the outdoors there!
Catch-and-release fishing is permitted and all Iowa DNR Fishing Regulations apply. If you choose to bring your pets to the park, please clean up after them and keep them on a leash. Bring your own fishing poles, hiking gear, picnic baskets, or other supplies to enjoy the park. Restrooms are available near the enclosed shelter downhill from the parking lot.
