How did the ice fishing ID go for you? If fish aren’t your thing, let’s take it from the water to the sky for this next “Knowing Nature” quiz!
The birds in this quiz will look familiar if you feed the birds in the winter! Winneshiek County Conservation is offering a Winter Birding Series in January and February to help you learn more about the birds that visit your bird feeders. If you are interested in bird-watching in Winneshiek County, there are many birding resources available. Check out our feeding guide to decide which types of birdseed and feeders you want to use. Once you have all kinds of birds coming to your yard for a snack, quiz yourself to see how many you can identify!
Take the quiz here: Knowing Nature – Common Winter Feeder Birds
For a fun challenge throughout the year, Winneshiek County Conservation will share several “Knowing Nature” quizzes. Each themed quiz will feature several species found in Winneshiek County. If you try all of the quizzes by the end of 2025, you will have experience identifying over 100 different types of plants, animals, and fungus!

Thank you to Luther College professor, Birgitta Meade, for compiling these “Knowing Nature” quizzes and allowing us to share them with the wider public. Most of the photos in these quizzes were taken by Winneshiek County Conservation naturalist Larry Reis.
