Whether you’re looking for one of the best lake fishing options in northeast Iowa or some of the best trout streams in the Midwest, Winneshiek County has you covered.

Ice Fishing Tips:

  • Plan to ice fish when new ice is at least four inches thick and a clear blue color.
  • Always ice fish with a friend and check the ice before walking on it.
  • Be sure to pack a five gallon bucket, ice auger, ice fishing rod, tackle box, and other equipment.
  • Dress in layers of thin, loose clothing with a moisture wicking base layer, a waterproof outer layer, head and hand coverings, warm socks, and insulated boots.
  • Supplies for safety include hand warmers, ice cleats, an emergency whistle, a life jacket, a floating safety rope, an ice pick to wear around your neck, a first aid kit, and an extra set of dry winter gear.
